2016 qualifiziert waren fand zwischen dem 2 und dem 20 Mai 2018 statt Als Austragungsorte fur den ursprunglich fur 2017 geplanten Zweikampf waren Jus Heimatstadt Shanghai 2 9 Mai 2018 und Tans Heimatstadt Chongqing 11 20 Mai benannt 1 2 Hauptschiedsrichterin war Anastasija Sarokina aus Belarus Im Zweikampf setzte sich die Herausforderin Ju Wenjun mit 5 4 durch und wurde damit erstmals Schachweltmeisterin China Volksrepublik Tan Zhongyi China Volksrepublik Ju WenjunSchachweltmeisterin seit Marz 2017 HerausforderinGewinnerin der K o Weltmeisterschaft 2017 Gewinnerin des Grand Prix 2015 2016Elo Zahl 2522 Mai 2018 Elo Zahl 2571 Mai 2018 Mangelndes Sponsoreninteresse bei den letzten Weltmeisterschaften und die in der Ausschreibung angebotene Verlangerung des Spieltermins bis Ende Marz 2018 fuhrten zu einer Verschiebung in das Jahr 2018 Nach wechselhaftem Verlauf in dem Ju dominierte lag sie mit einem Punkt Vorsprung in der zehnten Partie in Fuhrung weshalb Tan gewinnen musste um ihren Titel erfolgreich zu verteidigen Tan startete daher mit den schwarzen Steinen einen Angriffsversuch der jedoch von Ju abgewehrt wurde Ju spielte fortan trotz eines Mehrbauern auf Remis startete dann einen Angriffsversuch aber tauschte die Damen fur ein Endspiel ohne schwarze Chancen anstatt einen zweiten Bauern zu gewinnen Wie von Ju angestrebt endete die Partie bald remis wodurch
