Lampranthus ist eine Pflanzengattung aus der Familie der Mittagsblumengewächse (Aizoaceae). Der botanischen Name leitet sich von den griechischen Worten lampros für ‚leuchtend‘ sowie anthos für ‚Blüte‘ ab und verweist auf die hell leuchtenden Blüten der meisten Arten.

Beschreibung Bearbeiten
Die Arten der Gattung Lampranthus sind aufrechte bis kriechende Sträucher, häufig mit merklich roten Trieben. Ihre paarigen, zylindrischen oder dreiseitigen Laubblätter sind fast nicht miteinander verwachsen und nur mäßig xeromorph. Sie sind bis zu 5 Zentimeter lang. Die Blattoberfläche ist glatt und nur gelegentlich gepunktet.
Die Blüten erscheinen einzeln oder in größeren Dichasien und stehen in der Regel an kurzen Stielen. Sie erreichen einen Durchmesser von bis zu 6 Zentimeter. Es sind fünf Kelchblätter vorhanden. Die zahlreichen Kronblätter sind häufig glänzend und leuchtend gefärbt. Sie sind weiß, gelb, orange, rot oder purpurn. Filamentöse Staminodien sind in der Regel vorhanden. Das Nektarium bildet einen unscheinbaren, fein gekerbten Ring.
Die fünffächrigen, dunkelbraunen Kapselfrüchte sind lang ausdauernd. Ihre Basis ist lang trichterförmig bis glockenförmig, die Spitze erhaben. Die meist rechteckige Klappenflügel sind groß. Die Quellleisten laufen auseinander, die Fächerdecken sind kräftig. Verschlusskörper sind nicht vorhanden. Die Früchte enthalten braune, birnenförmige Samen, die mehr oder weniger glatt bis etwas papillös sind.
Verbreitung Bearbeiten
Das Verbreitungsgebiet der Gattung Lampranthus erstreckt sich in einem breiten Band entlang der Küsten beginnend südlich von Lüderitz in Namibia über die südafrikanischen Provinzen Ostkap, KwaZulu-Natal, das Namaqualand, sowie die Provinzen Nordkap und Westkap. Der Großteil der Arten wächst in den in Winterregengebieten beim Kap der Guten Hoffnung. Die Arten sind in sehr unterschiedlichen Habitaten verbreitet. Sie wachsen an sandigen Standorten entlang der Küste oder auf Schiefer- oder Lehmebenen. Häufig sind sie in felsigen Gebieten und auf Sandsteinböden zu finden.
Systematik Bearbeiten
Die Erstbeschreibung der Gattung durch Nicholas Edward Brown wurde 1930 veröffentlicht. Die Typusart ist Lampranthus multiradiatus. Nach Heidrun Hartmann (2017) umfasst die Gattung Lampranthus folgende Arten:
