Eric Marcus Opdam (* 1960) ist ein niederländischer Mathematiker, der sich mit Algebra und harmonischer Analysis befasst.

Opdam wurde 1988 bei Gerrit van Dijk an der Universität Leiden promoviert (Generalized Hypergeometric Functions Associated with Root Systems). Er ist Professor an der Universität Amsterdam. Ab 2015 war er dort Direktor des Korteweg-de-Vries-Instituts für Mathematik (KdVI) als Nachfolger von Jan Wiegerinck. Er ist seit 1999 am KdVI.

Er befasst sich insbesondere mit analytischen Aspekten von Iwahori-Hecke-Algebren, mit hypergeometrischen Funktionen die mit Wurzelsystemen von Liealgebren verbunden sind (Heckman-Opdam Hypergeometrische Funktionen) und Dunkl-Operatoren zu komplexen Reflexionsgruppen.

Opdam war 2000 eingeladener Sprecher auf dem Europäischen Mathematikerkongress in Barcelona (Hecke algebras and harmonic analysis). 2006 war er eingeladener Sprecher auf dem Internationalen Mathematikerkongress in Madrid. Er ist Mitglied der Niederländischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. 2010 erhielt er gemeinsam mit Bernhard Krötz einen Advanced Grant des ERC für sein Projekt Harmonic Analysis on reductive groups.

Er ist einer der Herausgeber von Compositio Mathematica.
