Hintergrund Bearbeiten
Das Album wurde von Peter Steele und Josh Silver produziert. Erneut verwendete die Band ein Scherzintro, Skip It, es klingt stakkatomäßig, so als würde der CD-Spieler des Hörers springen. Dieses ist auch so auf der Cassettenversion enthalten. Der Song White Slavery handelt von Kokainkonsum. Steele sagte dem Kerrang 1999: „There were a handful of times that were fucking horrible, but one night in particular was really bad, and that’s when I stopped doing it. I was really depressed and homesick, and the worst part is when you’re coming down from it. It’s five in the morning and there’s no one to talk to, you’re on a tour bus doing 80mph and you look out the window and it looks like you’re on Mars. All I could think about was jumping out of the bus while it was moving, but that would have made too many people happy.“

Steve Huey von AllMusic schrieb: „Three full years after their last album, Type O Negative finally returned with World Coming Down, a record that might alienate some fans brought on board with October Rust but which actually stands with the best of their work. Many of the songs most closely resemble the dirgier parts of Bloody Kisses -- still melodic, but not as immediately accessible, and taken at crawling tempos that would give Black Sabbath on downers a run for their money.“ Die Bewertung war vier von fünf Sternen.
