Die AWA World Tag Team Championship war der Tag-Team-Titel der US-amerikanischen Wrestling-Promotion American Wrestling Association (AWA). Er existierte von 1960 bis zur Einstellung der Promotion im Jahr 1991. Wie bei allen Wrestlingtiteln erfolgte die Vergabe durch eine Storyline.

Geschichte Bearbeiten
Nachdem sich die American Wrestling Association im Mai 1960 von der National Wrestling Association löste, wurden zunächst noch Stan Kowalski und Tiny Mills, die damaligen NWA World Tag Team Champions als World Tag Team Champions anerkannt. Als diese im August 1960 den Titel ein zweites Mal erhielten, wurden sie schließlich die ersten AWA World Tag Team Champions und der NWA-Titel wurde nicht mehr anerkannt.
Der Titel galt lange Jahre als prestigeträchtigster Tag-Team-Titel in den Vereinigten Staaten, bis der zunehmende Einfluss von World Wrestling Federation (WWF, heute WWE) und Jim Crockett Promotions die AWA schließlich zu Fall brachten. Der Titel wurde mit der Schließung der Promotion ebenfalls eingestellt. Seine Rechte liegen heute bei der WWE.
